Latest Updates from Our Project:
Free Christmas Scenario!
– Mon, Dec 22, 2025 at 02:50:01 AM
Hello, survivors!
This will be a short one, as it's currently very late at night and I'll be headed off for the holidays early tomorrow morning.
But first things first... we wanted to get you a little something to tide you over until the CHAINSAW PDFs are ready to check out as well as thank you for your continued patience. As I've said before, this is a very small team. The project is a little behind, but it's not too bad from where we are standing. Things are coming together very well on the design side, and we can't wait to show you what's in store.
Seriously, from the bottom of our hearts, we can't thank you enough for sticking with this project to see it to completion. As our way of saying thank you, I'll be uploading a free glimpse at a Christmas-themed CHAINSAW scenario called Silent Nightmare.
EDIT: To find the new PDF, visit backerkit and then downloads. If you are unable to locate it, send me a message here or on our Discord and we’ll get you sorted!
💀 Tell us more! 💀
Silent Nightmare is designed to be a one-shot. It is a randomized dungeon set on a Christmas train (inspired by things like Polar Express and Willy Wonka). We hope that it's wild and over the top, and that your tables have a great deal of fun going through it.
Note, this is early material, and while it's a little more jazzed up than our other playtest material (we were in the holiday spirit!), the final version will have art throughout and look even better. This version has not been proofed or edited, but it has been created with loads of love.
Please check this out, run it with your friends, and let us know in the discord what you think of it! Will you survive until Christmas Morning?
As always, THANK YOU!!! You all are amazing, and I'm so glad to be here with you. Let's tell some scary stories!
You can expect another update, likely in late January, with more spreads and some info on how our timeline is looking.
HAPPY SLAUGHTERDAYS AND MERRY AXE-MAS!

October Drop Delayed, New Art, Alchemy

Survivors!
Matthew here. It's been quite a month, but I'll get right to the part you all care about.
A few of you have asked where the October update has been, and I've been holding out posting this hoping that things came together in time, but unfortunately there won't be a big drop this month. Lost a family member, got really sick, and then had the engine fail on our car... so I've been up to my neck in the mud this past month.
Artwork by Bruce Brenneise.
The good news is that development is coming together really well, and we'll have the adventure from the core book out to you very soon for playtesting and comments as we wrap up visuals on the book itself. We are still planning to go to print on the hardcover in Q1 2026, and everything else is moving ahead as planned!

You all are amazing, and I can't wait to show off everything we've been working on for you. I'm super proud of this game, and I promise the wait will be well worth it.
The doors to CHAINSAW will be opening very soon.
And as a reward for being such an amazing community, we'll also be sharing a holiday one-shot CHAINSAW scenario in December for free!

🎈CHAINSAW is coming to Alchemy VTT! 🎈
We also wanted to share our partnership with Alchemy VTT, because CHAINSAW going to be fully supported on the platform so you can play digitally. As time goes on, we'll share more information as we are able, along with tips and tricks for running and playing your own games on VTT!

Update - Status of the Game, Johan Nohr Art Preview
about 1 year ago
– Mon, Jun 16, 2025 at 11:40:34 AM
Survivors!
We appreciate you so much for bearing with us as we continue with the development of the game, and many thanks to all those who have been playtesting and improving on the design!
This will be a short one, as I'm needed back in the basement to continue hacking corpses apart and reassembling them into monsters for the game, but an update is overdue!
🔪 What is the status of the game? 🔪
This is my first project of this size, and I'm learning a lot along the way. That alongside the state of things around the world (and locally), things have gone a bit slower than anticipated. Development continues on the latter half of the book and supplemental materials, but while the timeline might be pushed out a little bit, the quality is still the primary focus of everyone on board.
We've been in discussion with our printers and other manufacturers, but we locked in print dates just yet. We will update you as soon as we are ready. Though it is a little disappointing to not deliver on the projected timeline, we decided quality is much more important for the longevity of the game and the experience we hope to give to you guys. Thank you for bearing with us... I promise it will be worth it!
You still want a rough timeline? That's entirely fair. I know bar minimum we are aiming to have the PDF of the core book and as much else as we can ready to go so you can enjoy halloween the CHAINSAW way. Physical copies will be coming at a later date than expected, and we sincerely hope that doesn't ruin anyone's fun too much. When they do come, we are striving to deliver the highest value we can give you, something you'll remember for a while to come. There may even be some secrets in your box that we haven't talked about yet.
🎈 What is there to do in the meantime? 🎈
Come join us in Discord! There, we've been engaging in all kinds of things from playtesting CHAINSAW to game discussions to movie ratings to 3rd party content that might work for a range of different games. The community is growing, and we've love nothing more than to have you with us!
Additionally, you should be able to find the playtest materials for CHAINSAW's core rules on Backerkit. If you have not done that or been unable to find them, feel free to reach out to me here, discord, or at [email protected] and we'll get you sorted!
💀 Art Preview from Johan Nohr! 💀
To accompany today's update, we also wanted to show off this absolutely killer piece from the legendary Johan Nohr from within the pages of the CHAINSAW core book.
🤘🏼 Thank you! 🤘🏼
Thank you so much for your continued support and belief in this project. It means everything to us, and we can't wait to show you all that we've dragged into this mortal reality for you.
More updates soon to come, with more pages and materials to playtest. Until then, please continue to enjoy the playtest materials and check out the 3rd party content you all are already filling the discord with. I couldn't be more pleased with this community of horror gaming fans! We love you all, and we can't wait to tell more stories with you (and then get hacked apart for another set of victims to find).

March Update - Spread Previews
– Tue, Mar 25, 2025 at 11:20:06 AM
Hello, survivors!
Things are progressing well for CHAINSAW! Open playtesting has been well under way for the past few months, and what we've learned through it has been invaluable. A lot of the core rules have been refined (and some overhauled) and the reception we've seen is humbling. Thank you so much to any who have given their thoughts and/or playtested the game so far!
If you have not seen our playtesting materials, be sure to check Backerkit in your downloads, or reach out to me here or on Discord so we can get them over to you!
Spread Previews 🔪
I wanted to take a moment to show off a quick preview of some of the spreads going in the book. ALL PAGES BELOW ARE STILL A WORK IN PROGRESS and subject to changes before final print. Some may need further balancing and rules changes, but others might still need more art or another design pass. Nonetheless, we still wanted to share with you some behind the scenes magic and hopefully get you excited for all that is to come.
Thank You!
We'll be back soon with another update and more pages to show off, and we couldn't be more excited with how things are turning out. If you have any questions, just let us know how we can help. Don't forget to jump into our Discord server and join our growing community of horror gamers!
In Other News...
Scott C. McDonald's WASTELAND DEGENERATES is a post-apocalyptic Borg-compatible rpg game I am also a part of, serving as the artist and layouts. It's up on Kickstarter right now in it's final week... I highly recommend you check it out!
And in more recent events, Christian Eichhorn's Bankrupt:CYjust launched on Kickstarter this morning, and it looks awesome. I can't wait to use some of this in my futuristic slasher games!
